Dear Mayflower Families,
It is with great anticipation and joy that I welcome you to the 2015-16 school year at Mayflower Elementary School. I hope you had a great and restful summer. We have so much to celebrate! We were selected as Honor Roll recipients of the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE), a very prestigious recognition. Also, we recently were awarded the Kaboom Grant for $20,000 for our playground equipment, leading the nation in votes. Our students continue to excel both academically and in our numerous extra-curricular activities. They are true MARINERS demonstrating pride, tradition and excellence.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that school starts on Wednesday August 19th at 8:15 am. Also, please be mindful of all our families in regards to traffic. Traffic may be a bit more congested on the first week of school and the safety of our students and staff is paramount. As a reminder, drop off and pick up is in the back (Alta Vista lot) and the front of the school is designated for our buses.
I am very proud to be a part of this phenomenal school community. I consider it a privilege to work alongside knowledgeable and wonderful staff and parents that hold such high expectations, continue to raise the bar for academic achievement and personal accountability for their students and themselves. This past summer many of our teachers attended trainings to prepare our school for the changes that are essential in preparing our students for the 21st century, as such you will be hearing much about Common Core coupled with the skills of communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. All of the above are an integral part of teaching our students to be critical thinkers and problem solvers. Our staff is committed to helping our students reach their full potential by providing quality instruction and a safe and nurturing environment to learn in.
I would like to encourage and invite parents to become active members of our amazing and very supportive Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The support of our PTA truly allows us to “Dream Big” and makes all things possible for our kiddos.
I am certain you will be impressed with the commitment of our staff and volunteers and their dedicated work to support high-quality instruction for every student, every day, and in every classroom. I invite you to join me in making this a great year for our students!
