Principal's Message
Dear Mayflower Families,
On behalf of the staff at Mayflower Elementary School, I welcome you to the 2021-22 school year! Whether you are a returning family or new to Mayflower, we look forward to partnering with you to ensure the best school experience for your child. We pledge to serve our students and families with meaningful engagement and effective communication, as we work together to provide a safe, positive, rigorous learning environment for all students. As you know, this year we return to a regular school day schedule and in-person learning for all Mariners.
Our staff of highly qualified educators and support personnel are committed to providing students with ample opportunities inside and outside of the classroom. Proud to be a computer science immersion school, Mayflower students will grow their skills not only in coding, robotics and application development, but communication, collaboration and critical thinking as well. Our rigorous academic program provides students with necessary knowledge and skills for mastering Common Core standards and offers opportunities for tiered intervention and enrichment. Additionally, we are pleased to participate in excellent programs such as Positive Behavior Intervention and Support, Olweus Bully Prevention, Playworks and Renaissance Education. Combined, these programs offer our Mariners structure and clear behavior expectations, ultimately promoting and ensuring a safe, orderly place to learn, where unique strengths, growth and achievement are celebrated.
Together, we share the responsibility of student success. In response to the recent challenges faced by many students and families, we will be enhancing our academic intervention and social emotional learning and practices. I ask that you support your child’s development by ensuring that (s)he comes to school, ready to learn and SAIL, each day. Student success is closely tied to parent engagement and I encourage you to get involved in your child’s education. I eagerly invite you to work along side our professionals and volunteers as we continue to build upon and refine our foundation of learning for all, honored Mayflower traditions and continued excellence in education. Through ongoing communication with your child’s teacher, supporting PTA programs and participating in schoolwide events, your opportunities are endless.
Please be sure to join and regularly access our communication platform, Parentsquare. This will ensure that you receive up to date, important school information from Mayflower School, PTA and the Monrovia Unified School District.
This coming school year will bring great things for students at Mayflower Elementary School. I am hopeful that it will provide many opportunities to highlight the strengths in our programs and incredible community, while allowing a bit of normalcy to return to our daily lives at school. I look forward to continuing to build excellence at Mayflower, while ensuring a student-centered, academically rigorous, and community oriented environment. It is my pleasure to serve you and your child, and be a part of the success and joy your child experiences this year.
Sincerely, Michele Costarella MA Ed.
